Dating Advice: Living Together
Intro
Living together can put any relationship to the test. For people with long term significant others, they know that relationships can be work. Whether it's your first time living with your partner, or you've done it before in past relationships, the following advice should help you both along the way.
Go Out On Dates
When you live with your partner, it can start to feel like you're not even dating anymore, because you see them all the time. The living arrangement can feel more like roommates. It is important to go out at least once a week with just the two of you (going out with friends does not count!).
Go Out Separately
It's just as important to do activities without your partner. When you live together, you tend to do everything together all the time. To avoid resentment and getting sick of each other, dedicate time where you can do something separate. Have a girls night out or guys night out. Just be respectful of the other person either expecting you to come home at a certain time or wanting to know where you are. Openness and honesty is key.
Don't Sweat the Small Stuff
Like any aspect of a relationship, compromise is important to happy living. This means that you may have to adapt the way you are used to doing things. Little things like leaving the cap off of the toothpaste tube, washing dishes with a dirty sponge, or not putting things back in the right place may bother you, but the other person is just used to doing things that way. So talk about it, consider how you each can adapt you're way of doing things, and make an effort to commit to those compromises.

Talk About the Big Stuff
While it's important to compromise and discuss the little things, it's even more important to discuss the big things that may upset either one of you. This means to talk about it openly, not in any confrontational or argumentative manner, but to express your thoughts. The other person has to be an open listener as well, to not be offended. Hopefully you can come up with an agreement or plan that works for both of you.
Give Space When Needed
One of the most important things that a person needs is alone time. Everyone needs it once and a while, some more than others. Respect each others need to be alone to do the things that they want to do for a while. Some people hear, "I just need to be alone for a while", and a siren goes off in their head that the relationship is in trouble. Really, the statement holds much less weight. All it means is, I just want to read my book alone, or write, or think, or whatever.
Love Each Other
The last piece of advice for living together with the person you're dating, however obvious as it may be, is to love each. And let each other know it!
